Tuesday, March 31, 2015

Find out your Bride Personality Type here!

The Myers-Brigg Test has indicated 16 different personality types based on how people interact with the world, absorb information, make decisions, and organize thoughts.

ESTJ  Things an ESTJ hates. Some of these are sooooo spot-on! (Namely uncertainty, indecision, constant changes, and lack of control)

This week we will be discovering the "Executive" personality type!

1. ESTJ's otherwise known as, "The Executive" or "The Supervisor" are fantastic project managers and problem-solvers! She lives in the present with a fine eye for detail to make sure everything is running smoothly. This bride would not only coordinate a fantastically executed wedding, but she will make darn sure that her wedding goes down in the history books! Speaking of history, some well known ESTJ's are Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, and Condolleeza Rice! Coincidence, I think not.

2. This bride's maid of honor is in luck because the ESTJ bride is going to be the CEO of her wedding due to her desires for perfectionism. (Not to mention, Martha Stewart is in the ESTJ club as well!)Some of her greatest strengths is her ability to get a job done, multi-task, and work at a fast-pace! She values responsibility and takes commitments very seriously. Also, this bride is quick to make practical decisions so if your the ESTJ's maid of honor, your job is to help her relax!

Wedding Day Emergency Kit - A must have for any bride on her big day!

3. The ESTJ has a very low tolerance for inefficiency and messiness and have a true love for organization. Her world is centered around facts and concrete needs. This bride's brain is always on the clock! She needs fun outlets more than any other personality type! Take her thinking cap off and put some party pants on because ESTJ's can be very boisterous and fun at social events!

4. This bride is going to be very influential to other brides who are looking to get married because this gal is a wonderful role model. She likes to bring communities together and she receives a lot of personal satisfaction from the happiness of others. Other brides will be inspired by her ability to bring an amazing wedding to life for her loved ones to enjoy with her.

5. If any bride is going to kick wedding worries in the butt, it will be this bride! ESTJ's do not shy away from conflict and are extremely logical and practical! She can be a stubborn one, but her directness, honesty, and pragmatism will always fix everything. If you have been invited to her wedding, relax and enjoy because I can guarantee that this bride made sure that everything has been thoughtfully taken care of!

Pretty cute

See you next week!

Monday's Tip: Something Blue!

Monday, March 30, 2015
You have that something old, something new, something borrowed but what about that something blue? Do not panic if you are having trouble figuring out how to incorporate a touch of blue into your wedding. There are many different ways you can add blue into your ensemble whether it is super noticeable or more discrete. It does not matter how you choose to include your blue as long as you are happy and showing your own personality. Have fun with your blue item and be creative!

  1. A really fun way to show off your personality is to have blue shoes. While they may not show if your dress is long you can still take really fun pictures with them and if your dress is short it can be a great way to add some color to your outfit. No matter what you will still be sporting that “something blue.” If completely blue shoes are not your thing try shoes with a blue sole for just a touch of blue.

  1. If showing off your “something blue” so more people can see it is more your style try some fun blue nail polish or blue jewelry. If you do not want a super bright blue or for the blue to be super obvious and overtake your outfit try a softer blue.

  1. If you really want to make a statement with your “something blue” incorporate blue into your color scheme and add blue into your bridal bouquet or add blue detail on your wedding dress or in your hair.

Styling Sunday 2: Visual Art Seating Charts

Sunday, March 29, 2015

When delving into the duty of choosing my favorite escort cards, I found an array of unique ideas so massive that I had to narrow down my topic.  Instead of the broad idea of “the escort card,” I decided to focus solely on those that featured them as visual art!  As an interior designer, I am always so drawn to ceiling installations and anything that visually pops.  I helped with a few hanging installs for our weddings last year and let me tell ya, I would give anything to climb up a ladder and make something out of nothing.  (It might be partly because I was a gymnast for over half my life and climbing and balancing seems like the normal way to live, but I digress.)  That’s the beauty of installations!  Let me show you what I mean with these visual art seating charts...

1:  [Insert wide-eyed emoji here.]  Contemporary Cupid's arrows pierced into a lucite heart?!  I can't get over the graphic impact this display creates.  What a wonderfully creative way to showcase your escort cards.  Its visual texture is just outstanding.  I may or may not be bowing down to my computer screen. (Source)

2:  In the downtime of cocktail hour, give your guests a reason to play by using darts as your escort cards.  Together they'll create a collaborative art piece by launching them at this board with paint-filled balloons!  So organic and beautiful.  How special would this painting be knowing it was made by your guests at your wedding and there is nothing in the world exactly like it?  I'd probably choose brighter hues than these subdued creams and pinks showed here for more of a contrast, but I love the idea. (Source)

3:  Stop it.  You're perfect.  This gorgeously graphic seating chart is done by the one and only, Jesi Haack.  My installation idol.  She has so many genius ideas and all of her work is graphic, fun and packs a visual punch.  My kinda design.  The concept is so simple: find your name, follow the string and there's your table number!  All of the name-to-number pairings create a great asymmetrical geometric pattern.  I dig it so hard. (Source)

4:  How absolutely magical would it be to walk underneath these whimsical ribbons gently blowing in the breeze of a backyard soiree?  Did I paint the perfect picture for you?  Are you there?  Sipping on some delightful summer sangria or sweet tea?  Playing croquet in the freshly mowed lawn waiting for the reception fun to begin?  Yeah, these escort cards did that for you.  How nice of them.  (Source)

5:  Oh, lucite.  You wonderful creature, you.  I especially love this color palette.  In reading the article that featured this wedding I learned that the designer incorporated romantic blush florals and pretty pastels.  These edgier geometric-shaped escort cards in brighter shades allow for the perfect contrast.  I am all about contrasts.  Contrasts are my bff. (Source)

6:  Okay, this "I'm with the band" signage made from cymbals is not only so amazing, but WAIT til I tell you the story behind them.  Or, rather, the bride will:  "We met on a Sunday, at the same cabana. I had over heard Danny talking about making fake backstage passes to get in the front row at concerts. As a huge music lover, I thought that was super cool and asked if he wanted to be my friend. So, instead of traditional place cards we made fake backstage passes to tie in how we met." Get out!  So awesome. (Source)

7:  Ferns!  I'm a sucker for ferns.  And living walls.  And nature.  And my favorite color is green.  But enough about me.  How pretty is this wall?  I love the bright tropical colors and patterns.  So happy!  This whole wedding, in fact, is so bright and happy.  Rays of yellow sunshine-y florals scattered about, too.  Just breath-of-fresh-air loveliness.  (Source)

How to Choose a Theme

Saturday, March 28, 2015

Trying to lock down a theme for your wedding? Here are a few helpful tips on picking the most amazing theme for your big day! Look around your house, what styles do you tend to pick for your own home decor? Do you pick rustic, modern, colorful or more neutrals? Then think about if you want these same styles to reflect you as a couple at your wedding? Don't choose a wedding theme that is so far out of the box that guests who attend question if they're at the right wedding. You want it to reflect you and your fiancĂ© personalities. This is your day so it should be about YOU! The biggest trend I've seen lately is themes using vibrant colors. You aren't limited to two colors like most people have done in the past. Chose your favorite colors and a couple of neutrals and put them altogether! Here are some great color combos that look great paired together! Don't be afraid to be bold!

Happy Saturday y'all!

Food-Tastic Friday: Fruits of Your Labor

Friday, March 27, 2015

Planning a wedding is tough stuff (unless you are guided by our goddess Lori and her fabulous team, of course) and when the big day arrives, you want to be able to showcase the fruits of your labor in full bloom. I mean, literally, show off that fruit. The summer wedding season is known for fantastic florals, but natures’ flowers grow into flawless fruits and this week I encourage you to pick and choose until your basket of Food-Tastic ideas is overflowing.

Fancy fruit escort cards are super simple, and will be an unexpected way to add color to your décor. Better yet, your guests have a delicious snack waiting for them upon their arrival to your reception.

Prefer a more traditional treat? Mini fruit tarts and fruit topped cakes are summer-time classics, and guests will devour them whether they are passed as cocktail hour apps or displayed in tiers at the dessert bar.

Don’t let your visions of sweet something’s stop at the table. Incorporating fruits and flowers together in your bridal accessories is just shy of perfection.

Which fruit will you use in your wedding, and how? Happy commentingJ

UP Up and Away with Lanterns!

Thursday, March 26, 2015

One of my absolute favorite big wedding trends is setting off the beloved lighted paper lanterns! Whether you have a great appreciation for this beautiful Asian tradition, or you just really love the movie “Tangled”, you really can’t beat this trend. Last year I got the chance to go the first ever ‘Lantern Fest’ in the U.S. with my boyfriend, held in Post Falls, Idaho (pretty random, right?). But it was absolutely breathtaking! If you’ve been able to witness the lights you’ll understand that it’s pretty hard to put the experience into words; or maybe it’s just me… But I love it! And I love what it symbolizes too, letting go of your past. You’re starting a whole new part of your life with your new spouse, so why not symbolize that with letting go of these beautiful paper lanterns!

Fashion: A look at Carolina Herrera

Wednesday, March 25, 2015
Classic, timeless, with a twist, that's Carolina Herrera for you. Carolina Herrera has been around for years. Her name is a staple in the fashion and bridal industry. Her collection screams classic lines with modern flair and silhouettes that flatter.

Her gowns this season are pure romance. The collection keeps true to her classic design aspect featuring clean lines, but the textures and details give the gowns just a little something extra.

A full tulle skirt provides a whimsical look. The plunging neckline with delicate insert give the dress a romantic feel. This dress would suit various body types as well.
This is THE dress to look for. It's a trumpet gown with a unique lace design. The lace turns from a simple adornment to the main feature or pattern of the dress. It's to die for folks, and paired with a double veil or blusher- perfection.

Take me back to the 1950's please, especially if I can look like this. This tea length gown features tulle and lace detailing. The illusion neckline adds a romantic touch for your big day.

Carolina Herrera, I just want to live a day in your design studio, or have your collection in my closet. For now, I'll have to settle for vicariously living through your photos- thanks google for making that dream possible.

Bride Personality Types: ENFJ Bride!

Tuesday, March 24, 2015
The lady who redefine the look of a successful woman and proved you don't have to be a size 6 to be an unleashed woman.

Find out your Bride Personality Type Here!
http://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test

The Myers-Brigg Test has indicated 16 different personality types based on how people interact with the world, absorb information, make decisions, and organize thoughts.

ENFJ: "Representing approximately 2 percent of all people, people with the ENFJ personality type tend to be very influential, often without making any conscious efforts to increase their influence." Only 2%! Hadn't realized how uncommon my personality type is! Stressors that get me spinning: check out this ENFJ stress head! #mbti #myersbriggs

This week we are learning about the rare ENFJ woman, known as the "Protagonist"

1. The ENFJ bride approaches the world with much enthusiasm! She wants to experience all the excitement that life has to offer which means Mr. Right is going to naturally gravitate to her (of course). But don't think she'll be so easy to convince to tie the knot. This woman is a visionary and a progressive forward thinker so it's going to take a bit more than traditional romance to woo her from her clouds of imagination. This woman wants magic! I can guarantee that her groom will have a heart of gold since compassion for others is one of her biggest values.

This is when you know you married your best friend. CUUUTE

2. Some ENFJ's that may ring a bell are Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Oprah Winfrey, and Jennifer Lawrence. No other personality type values friendship and community more than this special gal. This makes perfect sense since this bride is a natural born leader who is great at recruiting people to join their cause. Not to mention she's usually a bundle of fun since she can easily bring the humor out in just about anybody!  The bridesmaids and other close friends are essential to the happiness of the ENFJ bride throughout the wedding planning process because she has a strong need for close personal relationships.

3. While most Extroverted personality types struggle with precise direction and standardizations, this ENFJ bride loves structure and order. She is very well organized and even likes to, dare I say, plan ahead! Her visions will easily become a reality due to her nature to resist distractions and ability to stay focused on her goals. I'm sensing a DIY-er in our midst!

Paper bouquet. I want this, but with sheet music instead of a book. Someone learn how to do this!!

4. While this bride may not ask for your help, they tend to need approval from others to feel good about themselves and their abstract ideas. But don't worry, this personality type takes praise and criticism very well. Just remember that this type is often hard on themselves because they are such passionate and driven souls. Help her say yes to the dress, venue, caterer, DJ, and centerpieces with an enthusiastic nod of approval!

This is such a unique idea for a photo! Great way to incorporate your best friends in your 'getting ready' pictures

5. Did you know that the ENFJ personality type is the most likely to believe in God or a higher power? This bride will likely have a beautiful wedding ceremony in a local chapel or spiritual setting where she can be surrounded by the most important people in her endearing life. If you are blessed enough to be apart of this amazing woman's circle and ceremony, you will certainly enjoy the big day because this woman has a talent for creative expression which can turn ordinary things into something marvelous!

Oh goodness! I love this. God's Timing - wish-upon-a-wedding

See you next week!

Monday's Tip of the Day: How to Handle Rain on your Big Day!

Monday, March 23, 2015

Your wedding is a few weeks away and while there has not been a cloud in the sky for the past few weeks we live in Seattle and the weather is known to be well, a bit unpredictable. You can never be too prepared especially when dealing with the possibility of rain on your wedding day. So just in case you should always be prepared and have a few handy items just in case. Never let a few drops from the sky ruin the most perfect day of your life.

  • If it is raining and you still need that something blue, try blue rain boots. The pictures will be amazing and you will keep your feet clean and dry. If not blue, match the boots to the color scheme of the wedding for some color. If you are not sure it is going to rain bring two pairs of shoes just in case.

  • You can actually get incredible photos from the rain. Try posing with a clear umbrella that shields you both from the rain, or taking a picture of your reflection from a puddle. The rain can enhance your photos and bring you two closer together, because hey who doesn’t want to snuggle and keep dry?

  • If you know it is going to rain on your wedding day rain boots make for a nice flower holder. They can really add color and express your personal style.

  • Umbrellas at a wedding can also make for really awesome pictures. The colors and the poses can be really fun and cute and leave you with some amazing memories.

While rain might not be ideal, I promise that you can still have an incredible day and have fun while doing it. So if it rains on your special day, embrace it because life is too short to sweat the little things.

Styling Sunday 1: The Guestbook

Sunday, March 22, 2015

Happy first Styling Sunday, everyone!  One of my favorite aspects about being a designer is finding inspiration and graphically composing images into a helpful visual tool.  I'd like to consider myself a mood board extraordinaire, so look forward to posts like this in the weeks to come!

Today I've designed a board with ideas for one of the most personality-filled aspects of the wedding day: The Guestbook!  I have seen so many creative ideas for this design element.  Here are a few of my faves!  (All sources linked below.)

1. For the Star-Gazers: How incredibly innovative is this constellation guest book?  The frame beside it reads: "We fell in love under the Arizona stars.  Sign a star and add it to our constellation."  So fun I can’t stand it. (Source: Jesi Haack Design)

2. For the Adventurers: For the beach bums or surfing sweethearts, this rad idea has the guests signing a surfboard for the couple.  It then could be mounted on a wall in their home or propped up against a corner of a wall as a statement dĂ©cor piece.  More of a PNW snowbunny?  Use a snowboard instead! (Source: Style Me Pretty)

3. For the Finger-Painters (or those who love polka-dots!): Many of us have seen the images of the guest book “tree” floating around; where the guests dab their fingers in ink and imprint “leaves” as their signature.  Still such a cute idea, but these other fingerprint designs are another way of incorporating that concept.  Bleu de Toi sells many variations of this theme and these are two of my favorites.  Champagne and “Love Bugs”?? Yes, please! (Source: Bleu de Toi on Etsy)

4. For the Word Enthusiasts: Calling all readers, writers, or vintage lovers!  This unconventional take on the guestbook is trending.  Guests are instructed to circle a word in a dictionary that either reminds them of the couple, this day or marriage in general.  Often signing their name with a note of advice as well.  I love this!  (Source: Wedding Bee)

5. For the Hopeless Romantics: Okay.  I may be biased because of my love of everything European (especially Parisian), but how insanely perfect are these “Love Locks?”  Meant to replicate the Love Lock Bridge in Paris, this darling guest book alternative is too much.  I love the inspiration behind it and its sentiment.  Precious. (Source: Style Me Pretty)

6. For the Musicians: Fancy a little music over sports?  Take inspiration from our snow and surf boarders and have your guests sign a guitar!  Don’t play an instrument? Maybe having your guests sign your favorite record or album-cover would be more your jam (pun absolutely intended).  We had a couple use that idea last wedding season and it was a hit (there I go again)! (Source: Ruffled)

Until next time, my Sunday Stylists…

Hot Topic Saturday: How to De-Stress!

Saturday, March 21, 2015
De-Stressing 101: 6 ways to De-stress During Wedding Planning

As someone who has planned my own wedding and been in a few bridal parties, I know that planning a wedding can get stressful and overwhelming. This stress can sometimes keep us from enjoying the process. Your wedding is supposed to be one of the best days of your life and the planning should be fun and worry free. As the resident nurse on the Elegant Affairs team, I’ve decided that this week I’m going to talk about ways to de-stress and keep sane during the planning process.

1. Exercise

Physical activity can help produce endorphins that naturally make us happy and stress free. Physical activity can also help clear the mind and help us have more focus.  Exercise is the perfect way to gain some clarity when the planning gets overwhelming.

2.  Get lots of sleep

I know it can be hard to fall asleep with so many meetings, appointments and checklists on our mind, but a good nights’ sleep can help rejuvenate you and calm you down. As an added bonus, when you get enough sleep, your blood pressure can decrease and you can also have healthy, glowing skin. What bride doesn’t want to have healthy, glowing skin on their wedding day?

3. Spend time with your girlfriends

Getting together with your girlfriends can help calm your nerves and take your mind off of the planning for a little while. A little wine and gossip could do you some good.

4.  Make date nights with your fiancĂ©

I noticed that during the wedding planning stage, my fiancĂ© and I realized that all the time we were spending together revolved around the wedding. Make sure to take time away from planning and focus on each other. After all, without them, you wouldn’t be planning this shindig in the first place.

5. Get outside

The outdoors can work miracles on a stressed out bride. Sunlight boosts serotonin  in the brain which regulates sleep, mood, memory and appetite.  Go for a bike ride, a walk or just lay in the grass. A little fresh air will do a lot of good!

6. Get a massage

If all else fails, get a massage. When I’m stressed, massages are the ultimate way to relax and reduce anxiety.  It might even be a good idea to book a massage a day or two before your wedding, so that you can calm your nerves.

These are only a few ways to reduce stress during the wedding planning process, but there are tons of other ways to keep all of you brides calm, cool and collected Find ways to de-stress that work for you and make sure to take the time to care for yourself during this process and the big day will be so much better.

Food-Tastic Friday

Friday, March 20, 2015
I am elated to announce, just in case your iPhone hasn’t reminded you yet, today is the first day of Spring! It’s here, officially here. The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and that hour of sleep we skipped last week has proven worth it. Spring gives me a new energy, an urge to wake up early and do something productive in the freshness of the day. Just this morning, I caught the last bits of a beautiful sunrise. I wanted to stop time. I wanted to be able to enjoy its radiance to the fullest, and not miss any of it.

The same was true for my wedding. I wanted to stop time. I wanted to be able to enjoy its radiance to the fullest and not miss any of it. Your wedding day inevitably is one of those days. It’s like a beautiful sunrise, with every passing moment one that you wish to remember forever. I challenge you to make it one that your guests remember forever, too. When is the last time you went to a wedding in the freshness of the day, when the flowers were waking and the birds were chirping? Something about a brunch wedding excites my appetite, and it will for your guests too! I mean, who doesn’t love a bubbling mimosa or a warm glazed donut?

Personalization: DIY Food Bar

Thursday, March 19, 2015
A great way to personalize your wedding is to have a DIY food bar! Choose your favorite guilty-pleasure treat and create a whole bar of mixin’s to have people make it their own. These food bars are an easy, but fun, way to display and serve food to your guests. A few examples of my favorite ideas are having a DIY ice cream sundae bar, a fro-yo bar, a baked potato bar, a waffle bar, a fruit cabob bar, a fondue bar, a caramel apple bar, a nacho bar, an ice cream sandwich bar, or having a candy table with baggies for the guests to fill for themselves! You can even create a DIY bar for your favorite drink too! Think about how great a DIY Bloody Mary bar would be with every sort of garnish you can think of! Or mimosas, sangria, margaritas, etc. You just need to set up a table, put out all of your ingredients for your food or beverage, and that’s it! Your friends and family get a customized snack, dessert, or drink. And it’s fun!  I love the idea of having guests make their own creation and I hope I’ve convinced you to too!

Rachel's New Fashion Love: Oleg Cassini

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

Oh Boy! Today the glimmer in my eye is caused by the one, the only Oleg Cassini. The thing I love about Oleg Cassini is he is affordable and obtainable. Yes, obtainable. You don’t have to fly New York to visit Kleinfield’s or visit the fanciest salon in your town for his radiant designs, he’s available at stores such as David’s Bridal. His 2015 collection makes my jaw drop. Texture, modern twists, fresh vibes, and pure beauty grace his collection this season. These features are essentials in wedding gowns.Texture creates depth and brings a new fresh twist to walk down the aisle. A dress with texture is much like a walking artistic masterpiece. Don't settle for a plain jane silk number, push the envelope- get a little daring and try something new. Need a little inspiration? Here's some gowns from Oleg Cassini's 2015 collection for your viewing pleasure. You're welcome and have a fabulous Wednesday you gorgeous you.
