Tip of the Day #7: Set Aside Time

Thursday, May 31, 2012
Tip of the Day
Don't let wedding planning take over you and your fiance's life. Set aside one day a week to focus on the wedding. This would be a great time to get together and talk and plan and/or meet with vendors. Also, plan one date night a week where you do something and don't talk about the wedding.

Tip of the Day #6: When to buy a wedding dress?

Wednesday, May 30, 2012
Tip of the Day
It's best to wait until you have selected your wedding venue before purchasing your wedding dress. The dress should reflect your wedding style, venue and date/time.

Tip of the Day #5: Get organized!

Tuesday, May 29, 2012
Tip of the Day
To help make the planning process easier and to keep you organized, set realistic goals on when tasks need to be done.

For example, if you get engaged on May 25, 2012 and want an August 3, 2013 wedding:
  • Select your ceremony/reception venue by August 1, 2012 (if not sooner)
  • Purchase wedding gown by September 1 (most companies need up to 6 months to order a dress)
  • Wedding Invitations to go out no later than June 8, 2012 (RSVPs should be due on July 3, 2013)
  • Purchase your marriage license by July 15, 2013 (in the state of Washington a marriage license is good for 60 days and there is a 3-day waiting period before a wedding can take place)

Tip fof the Day #4: Venue(s) Selection

Monday, May 28, 2012
Tip of the Day
When selecting a reception venue, make sure to go to an open house to see how the venue could be set-up for a wedding and taste their food so you know what to expect on your day.

Banquet permits, purchase now to avoid a headache later

Saturday, May 26, 2012
Due to the new liquor law going into effect in Washington state on June 1, if you are getting married in June and your reception venue requires you to have a banquet permit, it would save you time and a major headache if you purchase it before the end of business day on May 31.

We're now a just week away from the Thursday, May 31 close of the last of the Washington State Liquor Stores and the start of private liquor sales on Friday, June 1st. All sales of Washington State banquet permits will now be made online...and there appear to be some problems. Apparently, the credit card processing is proving difficult for some types of cards and there is an alert on the website....which directs you to the state run liquor store. To avoid problems, don't wait 'til the last minute.

While the state is out of the liquor selling business, it is NOT out of the permit business and you still need a Banquet Permit to serve liquor at a private event held in a public place. State Liquor Control Officers can visit events, so remember to sign and post a copy of the banquet permit at your event where the alcohol is served.

Some important facts about a Banquet Permit

What is a banquet permit?
A banquet permit is a permit you apply for that allows the service and consumption of liquor at a private, invitation-only banquet or gathering held in a public place or business. Examples include weddings, company banquets, retirement parties, and club, organization or church events.

What does the Liquor Control Board do with my banquet permit?
When you purchase your banquet permit online, an email copy of it is sent to your local liquor enforcement office. Officers can visit gatherings, so it is important that you sign and post a copy of your permit at the location where you will be serving the alcohol at your event.

Who do I contact with questions about banquet permits?
For questions, call the Licensing Customer Service desk at (360) 664-1600 (select option 1).

Make sure to check with your venue to see if you need a banquet permit for your wedding.
