Candy Buffet

Monday, January 25, 2010

One of the hottest trends for weddings is the Candy Buffet. Couples are using this fun, colorful and very tasty decor piece as their favor and bring a unique twist to their wedding reception, also providing another option for a delicious dessert.

Here are some things to think about when considering doing a Candy Buffet:

  • What kind of containers/scoops do you want to use? Do you want to rent or buy or do you want to hire a company to do the Candy Buffet? You want to use a variety of interesting containers in different shapes and heights.

  • How do you want to showcase your candy buffet? (A nice complimentary linen, flowers, photos of the bride and groom or wedding photos of the couple's parents, candles, theme decor, etc.)

  • What kind of candy do you want to have? The key is to have several types of candy to suit every sweet tooth. (Have candy to match your wedding color scheme, wedding theme, or favorite candies as a child and/or today)

  • Where to buy the candy? (http://www.candywarehouse.com/)

  • How much candy do you need? (It depends on how many guests, a good rule of thumb is 10-20 lbs. per style of candy.

  • What kind of packaging do you want to use? (Boxes or bags, its also fun to personalize your packaging.

Updating your Facebook status!

Thursday, January 14, 2010

I can't even count how many times the bride and/or the groom updated their relationship status on Facebook only minutes after getting married. If you haven't seen it done in person, it is the funniest things I have ever seen.

One thing I am going to try to do during this wedding season is to Tweet the progress of weddings so couples can go back later and see how their wedding happened as it was happening.

Transformers Birthday Party

For my son's 5th birthday, there was no other option than to have a Transformers themed birthday party. To begin, I designed his invitations and sent them out 8 weeks in advanced. Can you tell that I like to plan ahead.
For decor, I went to our local Party City and Everything Party in Renton and found everything to fit the theme. Our color scheme was yellow, blue and red and that was reflected in the decorations, balloons and cake.
Since we had 25 kids (all under then age of 8) and another 28 adults (the party was during one of the football playoff games) so we had "two" rooms. Our garage was turned into a Transformers playground. We had a pinata and played pin the allspark on Bumbleebe. With a party that big, I knew I had to keep the kids entertained so we had arts and crafts including Transformer and Disney princess coloring sheets and a craft to make your own Transformer.
As for the cake, which was the highlight of the party, it was a 3-layer cake. The bottom two layers were Funfetti complete with butter cream icing that I made from scratch and the top tier was a Transformer shaped pan (purchased from Michael's). I used the Transformer colors. I made the top layer was Devils Food Chocolate.
